Stephanie Tirdel, Owner

AntiGravity

Founder/owner/instructor of STHIEL PILATES & Movement Center.   Hello!  I received my Stott Pilates certification in 2001 and AntiGravity certification in 2016.  Prior to forging STHIEL PILATES  & Movement Center in 2005 I danced, taught and choreographed professionally with Labco Dance Company, Dance Alloy Theater and Attack Theatre of Pittsburgh to name a few and I still work as a freelance choreographer.  I hold a BA in Psychology with a minor in biology from Youngstown State University.

In 2008, after enduring back pain for years from life as a gymnast, professional dancer, the wake of three auto accidents and the stressors of single parenthood, (single parents, you know the struggle is real),  yet another injury sidelined my career as a performing artist.  It was at this time I sought deeper investigation and study of movement efficiency without pain on my path to recovery.  Now, due to a blend of Pilates, AntiGravity  and Fascial Fitness  I  have been able to forgo two back surgeries, reduce my pain and in 2016 was able to perform for the first time since 2009. A firm believer in ‘everything happening for a reason’,  I have found that the experience of the injuries has often helped me relate to the needs of my clients.

I believe in holistic teaching and in cross-training movement that enhances muscle confusion, proper alignment, strength, agility, flexibility, reduces pain and increases an overall state of wellbeing.

I am often encouraged by the positive growth in my clients from their practice at STHIEL PILATES  & Movement Center  and I am excited to share more than 30 years of study, practice and experience with you.

 Swami Doug Bentz, Pilates/Yoga

Hello! I began my professional dance career 49 years ago. After graduating from Butler University in Indianapolis with a BA Degree in Dance, I danced with the Geneva Ballet in Switzerland under George Balanchine, the New Jersey Ballet

and the Luigi Jazz Dance Company in NYC. Back in my hometown Pittsburgh, I danced with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, the American Dance Ensemble, The Extension (my own dance company), the Pittsburgh Dance Alloy under Mark Taylor, the Kevin Maloney Dance Theatre and the Pittsburgh Opera.

I joined the professional theatre union the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) in 1969 and performed extensively with the Kenley Players of Ohio, the Atlanta Theatre of the Stars in Georgia, the Burt Reynolds’ Dinner Theatre in Florida and both on and off-Broadway as well.

I have recently retired as a Professor in the Dance Department at Point Park University after teaching and choreographing for 40 years…and am perhaps best known for creating my Pittsburgh ‘classics’ like The Jazz Nutcracker, Allegro Jazzioso, Arc of Descent, Transmigrations of Souls, Moon Dance and Let’s Swing…I am excited to bring all this movement background into my second career: teaching Pilates! And even more excited to be doing this at STHIEL PILATES & Movement Center. Thank you Stephanie!

After 4 years of intensive classical Pilates Teacher Training at Harmony Pilates in Shadyside, I received my full Certified Pilates Teacher certification through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) this past March. Helping dancers and non-dancers, the young and the not-so-young “return to life” through this amazing system of whole-body wellness created by Joe Pilates has become my ‘new’ passion in life.

I am a classically based Pilates  teacher but after 49 years as a professional dancer…quite open to new ideas! As Bilbo Baggins said: “I think I am quite ready for another adventure!”
